How to set up backups for your Expensio data

We have built-in ways for you to export your data if you so need. You can save it anywhere you want, and even import it in another instance of Expensio.

Manual backups

You can manually export your data by following these steps:

  1. Go to the /admin page. You can find a link to it in your profile once logged in.
  2. Once there, scroll down and you'll find a section called "Export".
  3. Click on the "Export" button.
  4. It will zip all your data and trigger a download.

This is it. You have your backup, it's marked with the timestamp of the very moment you exported.

You can:

  • use it to restore your data in another instance of Expensio
  • save it on your PC
  • save it on any cloud storage service like Google Drive, Dropbox and so on

Imports - Using a backup

You probably saw the import form already, just bellow the "Export" section.

You can use it to upload a zip file with your data (that you have from a previous export) and it will import it for you.

This is it. You have your data back, and you can start using it again.

But do note that the import will overwrite your current data.

Automated backups - Coming soon

We're working on a way to schedule regular uploads of your data to an array of cloud storage services like AWS, Dropbox, etc.

This way you won't have to remember to export your data every time you want to backup it.
